Dr. Angela CyrusAngela Cyrus, PhD, ACC - Executive Coach and Consultant

Angela is President of The Cyrus Group, LLC, a practice committed to developing powerful leaders. She is a Distinguished Visiting Faculty member of the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions, and an Adjunct Faculty member at both the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia and University of Maryland’s Executive MBA Program. She enjoys teaching graduate courses in public administration and public policy, and has taught undergraduate courses in leadership theory, reflection and application at the U.S. Naval Academy. She employs Socratic methods and experiential learning techniques in courses such as Leading Teams and Leading in Your Profession that she offers to executive leaders.

A former Captain in the U.S. Navy, Angela led teams and organizations to achieve award-winning results. She specialized in Installation Management, a field akin to city management, where she oversaw military base operations. She successfully led a recruiting team of more than 300 people, located in 52 recruiting stations spread among five states, to achieve Recruiting District of the Year. Angela also held several positions in higher education administration, including Vice Dean/Director of College Admissions at the U.S. Naval Academy, where upon retirement from the military, she was named Associate Dean for College Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives. Prior to the Academy, Angela was Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs and then Director of College Operations at the U.S. Joint Forces Staff College, a division of the National Defense University.

Angela’s repertoire is replete with formal education in leadership studies and practical experience as a career leader. She is a graduate of the Extraordinary Leader Course at University of Virginia and the Executive Leadership Coaching Certificate Program at Georgetown University. Her doctoral studies in Public Administration included directed research in Industrial Organizational Psychology where she focused on leadership and motivation theory. She attained her master’s in Information Systems after completing her undergraduate degree in Computer Science. Angela is certified to provide Executive Leadership Coaching by the International Coach Federation and is also certified in Hogan Leadership Assessment Inventories. She currently coaches senior federal executives around MBTI Personality Assessments and the OPM Leadership 360™. Her client list includes executives from FAA, USDA, CIA, NASA, Departments of Defense, State, Transportation, Education, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture. Angela also coaches executives in University of Maryland’s Executive MBA Program using Career Leader, MBTI, Hogan and Strengths Deployment Inventories.

Angela is committed to developing powerful leaders by increasing leadership competence and skill development; and by fostering personal confidence through customized leadership coaching. She has provided leadership development training, keynote addresses and leadership panel participation to organizations such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Public Service Enterprise Group of New Jersey, Navy Medical Service Corps Annual Symposium, Baltimore Urban Housing and Development, multiple professional development conferences, and the 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Conference sponsored by Susan G. Komen and New York University in New York City. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Severn School in Severna Park.
